A phase-change material (PCM) is a substance with a high fusion which after melting and solidifying at a certain temperature, is capable of storing and releasing large amounts of energy. Heat is absorbed or released when the material changes from solid to liquid and vice versa.
PCMs are liquids above their melting point and turns to solids below that. They can be encapsulated in different materials, such as – high-density polyethylene, PVC, polyester fiber and stainless steel containers, depending on the compatibility characteristics and service temperature.

PCM solar collector is a kind of solar thermal water heating collector. It is a combination of solar and PCM technology. PCM materials are encapsulated in metal tubes, which are inserted into solar vacuum tubes for energy.
